Delete

Deleting something moves it to the recycle bin.

  • Usualy has no confirmation required, but one may be used if it is a situation where it may not be clear what is being deleted.

Remove

Removing something purges it immediately. There is no undo.

  • Never requires a confirmation.

Erase

Removing something purges it immediately. There is no undo. Erase is also used in this manner in the recycle bin.

  • "Erase" is always followed by a confirmation page, except for things already in the recycle bin.

Remove vs. Erase

Both words refer to the same effect, but are used for different subjects. If the thing to be deleted is trivial (very easily recreated or is a relationship only with no data) we use "Remove". If the thing to be purged contains more than trivial data and/or will cause other objects to be purged with it, we use "Erase".
