Codename
We chose it because of the Mars probe (not the Nissan). Following our solar system naming convention, all 3.x releases are Mars-related.
The Mars Pathfinder, launched in December 4, 1996 by NASA, was a hugely successful Mars exploration probe. Though completely successful and completing real objectives, the Mars Pathfinder mission can be regarded as a "proof-of-concept" for various technologies, such as aerobraking, airbag-mediated touchdown, and automated obstacle avoidance, all later exploited by the Mars Exploration Rovers. The Mars Pathfinder was also remarkable for its extremely low price, relative to other unmanned space missions.
- In 2003 the Pathfinder rover was inducted into the Robot Hall of Fame.
